ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Martha Brereton Loss, 93, of Arlington Heights, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at her home after a battle with congestive heart failure.
She was a graduate of Grinnell University and Case Western Reserve University, where she received a master's degree of nursing. Following that, she entered the United States Army as an Army nurse, where she served until the end of World War II. She married Fred P. Loss in 1945, and they raised their three daughters in Palatine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; and daughter, Katherine.
She is survived by her daughters, Marianne (Stuart) Gassner of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Barbara (Tony) Gomez of Crystal Lake; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, March 30, at First United Methodist Church in Palatine.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, Heartland Hospice or The Methodist Church in Palatine.
