Mary E. Owens, 86, of Andrew, died at 10:02 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007 at Villa Health Care East. Mary was born February 23, 1921 in Springfield, the daughter of Albert and Catherine Simon Charles. She married Herbert D. Owens in 1956 in Riverton; he preceded her in death in 1975. Mary was employed at Charles Market as a grocery clerk from 1947 – 1956. She was then a homemaker and an in-home daycare provider. Mary is remembered for the great patience and love she had for all of the children she cared for. Mary had a deep faith in God and was a member of St. Joseph Church where she was formerly a member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, horses, country music and flowers. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. She was also preceded in death by four brothers: Henry, Robert “Bob”, Ted and Ed Charles. She is survived by one son: Herbert D. Owens of Springfield; one daughter: Patricia “Patty” Sklenka of Andrew; three granddaughters: Melissa, Angela and Sarah Sklenka all of Andrew; two grandsons: Joseph (wife, Cristina) Sklenka of Buffalo and Jonathan Sklenka of Andrew; four great-grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, V.F. officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Villa Health Care East, 100 Marian Pkwy., Sherman, IL 62684.
