Wardsboro, VT- Mary Elizabeth Wheeler, 76, formerly of Rolling Hills Village in Hinsdale, a resident at Pine Heights Nursing Home since April, died Saturday morning, August 4, 2012 at the home of her grandson on East Hill Road in Wardsboro following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Wheeler was born on July 9, 1936 in Groveton, N.H. the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Marsh) Hopps. She was raised and educated in Groveton where she attended local schools. For several years she had been employed at the former BookPress in Brattleboro but for most of her life she was a devoted homemaker. Of her pastimes and interests she enjoyed fishing, crocheting and time spent with her family. On February 5, 1972 in Hinsdale she was married to Milton Wheeler, Sr. who survives. She was predeceased by her first husband Albert Thebarge. Survivors include one daughter Carol Macie of Guilford, one step-daughter Pamela Buffington of VA, two step-sons, Milton Wheeler, Jr. of Hinsdale and Brian Wheeler of Winchester, four grandchildren, Tammy Tasoulas Lawton, Harold Porter, Jr., Elizabeth Porter Courture and Tara Porter, one uncle, Robert Marsh, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in Oaklawn Cemetery in Hinsdale. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mrs. Wheeler's name may be made to the Oncology Dept at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, 17 Belmont Ave., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
