Mary Etta Bechtel, 86 of rural Manito, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at home with her family.

Born October 25, 1929 in Pekin, IL to Everett D. and Etta M. (Bloomer) Smith; she married Raymond H. Bechtel July 31, 1949 in Joliet, IL and he preceded her in death in 2005.

Also preceding in death were her parents; step-father, Wallie Simpson; her daughter, Twiletta Cotter; brother, Gerald Smith; and sister, Betty Lietz.

Surviving are her children, Ronald (Sandi) Bechtel of Lake Ozark, MO, Arthur Bechtel of Manito, Cindy (Guy) Wickert of Manito, and Nancy (Tom) Wise of Chalfont, PA; 21 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and her sisters, Marie (Robert) Hacker and Barbara Long, both of Pekin, Donna (Jim) Anderson of Phoenix, AZ and Terri (Steve) Pfeiffer of Glen Ellyn, IL.

Mary Etta was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Pekin, Women of the Moose in Lockport, Girl Scouts of America and AARP. She had volunteered at the Hines VA Hospital and was a past of officer of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary in Pekin.

She was a realtor working through Allen & Associates in Pekin for many years. In her retirement, she enjoyed crocheting for others.

Mary Etta cherished being a grandmother and she enjoyed the view from her home on Spring Lake

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorials are suggested to the Girl Scouts of America.
