Mary Eva ( Stickney ) McCarthy, 92, born in Westhampton, Massachusetts and longtime resident of Easthampton, Massachusetts, died on January 19 in Bolivia, North Carolina. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Raymond Daniel McCarthy, who died in 1986.

Mary is also predeceased by her sisters, Ella McGee and Adele Ely. And her mother and father, Irene ( Blakesley ) Stickney, and Charles Stickney.

Mary is survived by her son, Terrence Michael McCarthy and her daughter in law, Donna ( Kanner ) McCarthy, who live in Carolina Shores, North Carolina.

Mary McCarthy graduated from Northampton High School and Raymond McCarthy graduated from St. Michaels High School in Northampton, Massachusetts. Both were factory workers in the mill town in which they lived. Mary worked for United Elastic Corporation and the Kellogg Brush Company.

Mary's life was filled with the love and joy experienced with family and friends. Among the many things she will be remembered for is cooking Thanksgiving dinner, for decades, in her apartment at 127 Main Street in Easthampton. Among those served at her table was her sisters, beloved niece, Judy ( Pickering ) Denis, her husband, David Denis, and their three sons, Chris, Todd, Jeff, and his wife, Michele.

As was her husband, Raymond, Mary was a passionate reader. If one were fortunate enough to be on her Christmas and Birthday present list, the gift one got was more than likely a book.

An avid Boston Red Sox fan, as was her husband, and as is her son, Mary met and talked with Red Sox legend, Jimmy Piersall, when he paid a visit to Easthampton in 1959. Mary's all time favorite Sox player was David Ortiz. When she was well into her 80s, she could recite every Sox player's name on the starting team.

Mary's ashes will be buried at the Westhampton cemetery, next to her beloved husband Raymond. The cemetery is located near the home in which she was born, on Route 66 in the western Massachusetts village. The house in which she was born is still standing.

A brief grave site memorial service will be held at the cemetery. The date for which has not yet been determined.
