Mary White, 80, a long time resident of Hampton, passed away on Friday November 24th at home with family by her side.

Born on July 10, 1937 to Roger and Mila Elliott in Saginaw, Michigan, she was the only girl of seven. She graduated from Saginaw high school in 1955 and married the love of her life, Everette White in 1956. As a military wife they had eight address changes on three different continents before settling in Hampton where she worked in the men's department at Woolco. After her retirement she opened a daycare in her home and also volunteered at the Northampton Community Center where she took her grandchildren. All children held a very special place in her heart.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents and five of her brothers, Bob, Chum, Don, Jim, and an infant brother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Everette; her son, Wayne; her daughters, Cyndi (Don), Patty (Eric); nine grandchildren, PJ, Donnie, Michelle, James, Jessica, Patrick, Danielle, Kelsie, and Braden; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she was part of Happy Hearts. While she was still able to, she loved walking and was an avid mall walker, and always loved being outside doing yard work. She loved doing puzzles, collecting quilts, and absolutely loved sunflowers. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a strong woman with a heart of gold. Her infectious smile and outgoing personality made everyone gravitate towards her. She loved spending time with her family and always took the time to listen to her children's problems and support their decisions. Her love was unconditional.

The family would like to thank Riverside Regional Medical Center, especially Dr. Narayan and nurses Heather, Kendra, and Doreen; as well as the staff at The Newport and Riverside Hospice, especially Kaye.

Family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the funeral home followed by an entombment at Hampton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, APDA.

Friends are encouraged to visit to share memories and words of condolence with the family.

Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
