CREVE COEUR ~ Mary Joan Chambers, 90, of Creve Coeur, passed away at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Generations of Peoria.

Born June 14, 1930 in Wyoming, Illinois to John Peter and Johanna Louise (Morrissey) Kelly, she married Ivan LeRoy Chambers on February 3, 1951 in Princeville. He died December 19, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Steven Chambers, Michael Chambers, and David Chambers; one brother, John “Jack” Kelly; and one son-in-law, Tom Hranka.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda (Joseph) Gaidos and Mary Lou (Olen) Ellington, both of Chillicothe, and Susan Hranka of Germantown Hills; 8 grandchildren, Jacob, Jenna, Patrick, Kelly, Ryne, Adam, Megan, Brooke; 9 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Susan Chambers.

Joan worked at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria for 26 years, retiring June 15, 1995 as a surgical nursing assistant.

She was a longtime and devoted and active member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and would volunteer at any chance and love to sell her crafts for fundraising. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Senior Saint at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

She enjoyed crocheting and was a great cook for her family and friends. She brought so much joy to all around her being so generous and kind.

Private burial will be at Princeville Township Cemetery in Princeville. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
