Mary Lou Broome, aged 96 years of Brownsboro, AL, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her residence. A native of Columbia, MS, she was a baker and operated her own bakery. She was a member of Improve Baptist Church.
Ms. Broome was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Broome; parents, Stanley and Maudie Watts; a sister, Ida Breeland; and brothers, Harvey Watts, Henry Watts, and Stanley Watts, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Carl) Moody of Brownsboro, AL, and Lynda (Ken) Fernandez of Hampton Cove, AL; a son, Terry (Laura) Broome of Columbia; a sister, Minnie Ruth Stringer of Columbia; and a brother David Allen (Bernice) Watts of Hattiesburg, MS; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Tammy, Tasha, Leigh, Ryan, Tia, and Tatum; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral services will be Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00am at Improve Baptist Church where friends may visit with family from 10:00am until service time. Rev. Darel Daniels will officiate at the service and interment will be at Improve Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Moody, Joseph Nation, Luke Beasley, Sam Hathorn, Vernon Watts, and Stan Watts. Honorary pallbearers will be Ike Broome and Benjamin Nation.
