Mary Sue Thompson, 85, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, October 23, 2017. She was born in Siloam, NC to the late Lloyd Oren and Ola Mae Norman (Dunlap). Also preceding her in death was her husband, William R. Thompson (Tommy), and her brothers Jack R. and Bill Norman.
Sue graduated from McLeansville High School in NC and received her nursing diploma from the High Point Memorial Hospital Nursing School. She retired after 40 years of nursing, a career that was her calling in life. Early on she was a polio nurse, and then a private duty nurse with DePaul Hospital. For the last 30 years of her career she was an R.N. at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and supervisor of Building I.
Besides her nursing career, Sue's life was dedicated to her family and her faith. She was a longtime member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church where she faithfully attended the Faithseekers Sunday School class. Sue also loved shopping, family dinners, and holiday celebrations.
Sue made an impact on the lives that she touched and she will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan E. Thompson; son, Steven C. Thompson; sister-in-law, Susan Lockamy Norman; and many extended family members and close friends.
A celebration of Sue's life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, with a reception to follow. A private burial will take place at a later date. Those who wish to make a memorial gift are asked to consider Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, 4392 Virginia Beach Blvd. You may offer your condolences at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com.
