Mary Sutton Heald

Mary Sutton Heald, age 83, a resident of Annapolis, MD since 1967, passed away October 3, 2017 from congestive heart failure at Ginger Cove Retirement Community.

Mrs. Heald was born in Greenville, Mississippi and raised in North Carolina. She attended St. Mary’s Episcopal School and Junior College in Raleigh, NC, and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a BA degree in education. She taught first and second grades in NC, VA and MD.

Mrs. Heald was very actively involved in volunteer programs at Ginger Cove and in Annapolis. She was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in Maryland, the Four Rivers Garden Club, the Junior League of Annapolis, Companions of the Holy Cross, the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake and she was on the Board of the Chase Home. She was an avid traveler and reader and enjoyed sailing and gardening. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Heald was preceded in death by her husbands, Jonathan M. Sutton, MD, and Felix P. Heald, Jr., MD. She is survived by her children, Jonathan M. Sutton, Jr., Parker Sutton, Tracy Edlich, and Kate Heald, and her stepchildren, Anne Heald, Deborah Heald Hougland, Christopher Heald, Jennifer Heald, Wendy Heald

Stevens, and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Sara Kay Wilds.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on October 10, 2017 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church with interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery. The service will be followed by a noon reception in Friendship Hall at Ginger Cove, 4000 River Crescent Drive.
