Marybeth Baiel of Homer Glen peacefully passed away early morning Sunday November 26, 2017 surrounded by her immediate family – Rick, Rich, and Steve (Tracy).

Born February 4, 1947 to John and Mae Curtin of Chicago, Marybeth had an enjoyable childhood with her Brother Jay, closest Cousin Pat and many friends and extended family across the Southside of Chicago. After attending Little Flower High School, Marybeth established herself as the best mom in the world in the Oak Forest and then Homewood / Flossmoor communities where she raised her children. Her sole influence produced two great loving sons even though they didn’t always make it easy for her. Their bond with Marybeth will always be unbreakable.

In 1988 Marybeth married the love of her life, Rick Baiel. The feelings shared between Rick and Marybeth were profound and they set an example of true love to all others around them. As best friends and sole mates, they enjoyed traveling to places such as Montana, the Caribbean, Hawaii and throughout the Americas; spending time with family and friends, watching their favorite TV shows and just being together living their daily lives. Rick provided Marybeth care rarely seen in relationships from the day he courted her through her very last breath. A beloved member of Marybeth’s family, Rick will always continue to represent her legacy and love for others.

Marybeth’s relationships grew throughout her life within the family with sister in laws Patricia (Jay), Nancy (Jim) and Donna (Bill) along with her love for nieces and nephews Mark (Missy), Jennifer (Marty), Ryan (Allison), Heidi (Mike) and Megan (Brian). A favorite part of Marybeth’s life was being the best “Grammy” in the world, loving every moment with her Kaity, Tess, Jake, Ben and Alex. The boys will greatly miss their yearly birthday “dates” with Grammy to the movies, dinner and shopping. More than anything they will miss the warm 1:1 conversations with her and will always hold a special place in their hearts for their Grammy.

During her adult life Marybeth excelled in a real estate career throughout the south suburbs, developing great relationships with co-workers, especially Madonna (John), and clients alike. Best known for her compassion for people, she was and will always be the most caring and affectionate person to those who knew her. She had an easiness about her that made for comfortable discussions and quality conversations. Through years of battling Lupus, she always had a smile on her face and filled every room with joy. A five year cancer survivor (melanoma), she unexpectedly succumbed to the disease much too early in her life.

Marybeth was preceded in death by her parents John and Mae Curtin and special Grandmother Nana. She is survived by her adoring husband of 30 years Rick, sons Rich (Dawn) and Steve (Tracy) Simon, brother Jay (Patricia), grandchildren Jacob, Ben, Alex, Kaity and Tess; close cousin Pat (Jack), brother and sister in laws Bill (Donna) and Jim (Nancy) and special nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday November 30, 2017 from 1:00 to 9:00 at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W 143rd St, Orland Park, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made online at The family is very grateful that Marybeth was able to spend her final days at such a beautiful facility with the best care, comfort and support for her.
