A vibrant, fun-loving, friend-to-all, gentle giant, Matthew J. Calder 31, of Oak Circle, Winchester, NH, tragically lost his life as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in Ascutney, Vermont.

Matthew's parents, Steven Calder and Elizabeth (Ruic) Calder, welcomed their son into the world on April 27, 1986 in Nassau County, Long Island, New York.

Matthew grew up in Dix Hills, Long Island and was a 2004 graduate of Half Hallow Hills High School in Dix Hills. He went on to attend culinary school at the Connecticut Culinary Institute. It was here, that Matthew met his future wife, Giovanna V. Marrone, who was also attending the Institute.

He was a resident of Keene, NH for a brief time before moving to Winchester a little over one year ago.

At the time of Matthew's accident, he was employed as a sales representative with AT&T in Keene, a job he was well-suited for with his friendly personality and natural talent for sales. Matt had recently been named the Stewart for the CWA Local 1400 through AT&T. It was a position he was proud to take for the union.

He was "big-hearted" and loved by, and made friends with everyone who came to know him.

Matthew was a serious "gamer", being able to play with a dedicated server and 3 monitors to pursue his thirst for the game with people around the world.

He will be greatly missed by many, especially his wife of four years, Giovanna V. "Gio" Calder of Winchester; his daughter, Emma Ann Calder of Winchester; his father, Steven Calder and his wife, Patricia, of Keene; his mother, Elizabeth Calder-Oberlin of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Jamie Oberlin and Sara Oberlin both of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Bill Oberlin of Myrtle Beach; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Josephine and Rev. Dr. Bob Marrone of Peterborough, NH; a sister-in-law, Lindseigh Picard and her husband, John, of Winchester; brothers-in-law, Benjamin Marrone and Joseph Marrone, both of Holyoke, MA; his paternal grandmother, Marie Calder of Long Beach, Long Island, NY; his paternal great-grandmother, Barbara Calder of England; his maternal grandmother, Jane Ruic of Lindenhurst, NY; Gio's grandparents, Carol and Joe Marrone of Merrimack, NH; a nephew, Walker Picard of Winchester; a niece, Lola Picard of Winchester; and many cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Steven D. Calder on December 1, 2011; his paternal grandfather, George T. Calder; his paternal grandmother, Lillian E. Calder; and his paternal great-grandfather, George T. Calder.

A celebration of Matthew's life and memorial service will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:00PM in the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene, NH.
