Maudell Frances (Sue) Carney passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 22, 2017. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 1st Central Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 400 Orange St., Abilene with burial following in Willow Cemetery in Haskell, TX. Visitation will be from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene, TX. She was born January 18, 1926, in Snyder TX, the fourth of six children. She was a graduate and, subsequently, a longtime employee of McMurry College (University). She was a long time and devoted member of St Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and G.G. Carney; her brothers, Thomas, John Gardner (Peter), Richard and Culver; as well as her sister, Elaine Reed. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Wanda Carney (Hobbs NM); nieces and nephews, Tim Carney (Bryan), Steve Carney (Coral Springs FL), Anne Parker (Lubbock), Robin Ach (Temple), John Carney (Pflugerville), Elaine Dill (Abbeville LA), Gael Carney (Victoria, Australia), Craig Carney (Hobbs NM), Beth Rodgers (Dallas) and Keith Carney (Dallas); as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Sue was a thoughtful, kind and selfless daughter, sister, aunt and friend who made the many lives she touched better by her presence. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed. Memorials may be made to a personal favorite charity in her name.
