Melba Eva Skiles passed away on August 24, 2017 at the age of 92. She was born Melba Eva Campbell in Dallas, TX, and married Lemoin "Lee" Skiles on June 2, 1944 in Stamford, TX. The couple moved to Porterville, CA in 1951 and to Fresno in 1956. She was a homemaker until 1957 when she decided to attend Fresno City College and obtained an Associates degree. She worked as a bookkeeper and in various clerical jobs until she began working as Bookkeeper and Executive Director at her husband's company, Valley Building Specialties. Melba started her own kitchen design company, Kitchens Etc., in 1983. She was known in Fresno and the Central Valley for designing stylish and elegant kitchens and baths. Her designs were featured in the Fresno Bee and other regional publications.

Melba was an active member of Fresno's business community. In 1974, she served as President of the American Women's Business Association of Fresno and was twice nominated for their 'Woman of the Year' award. She also served as Treasurer for the Designers Exchange and was a founding member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry's Central San Joaquin Chapter.

In 1992, Melba was recognized by the Fresno County Sheriff's Department for her contributions to crime prevention programs in the city. She was also awarded a commendation for her volunteer work with the Mental Health Association's Community Friends Program.

Melba and Lemoin were dedicated members of the Evangelical Free congregation, and Melba served on the church's board of trustees.

She was a loving wife to her husband of 55 years and a caring mother and grandmother to her three children and six grandchildren. She especially loved gardening and sewing and shared those passions with her friends and family.

For the last twelve years of her life she lived at the Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens. Her family would like to specially thank the staff at San Joaquin Gardens' Tivoli Lodge.

She is survived by her children, Jeanne Nidever of Fresno, Dan Skiles of Arizona City, AZ, and Adrian Skiles of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Honori Gaines of Silver Spring, MD; her grandchildren, Lori Nidersson of Stillwater, MN, David Nidever of Bozeman, MT, John Nidever of Fresno, Wendy Harr of Phoenix, AZ, Lemoin T. Skiles of Sparks, NV, and Ashley Skiles of San Francisco; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Tolladay Auditorium at San Joaquin Gardens, 5555 N. Fresno Street, on September 2, 2017 at 1:00pm.
