Melvin E. Flanders, 73, of Ankeny (formerly Polk City) passed away August 1, 2018 due to complications of Congestive Heart Failure and several system complications of "Agent Orange"
A visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018, with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 n Ankeny Blvd)

He was born April 2, 1945 in Keota, Iowa, and grew up in Polk City. He married Karen Holseid in 1966, and he couple had 3 children.
Mel served in the Army in Vietnam, and the American Legion, Post #232.
He worked as a housing inspector for Polk County until his retirement.

Mel is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Tina (Tony) Biery, Angela (Terry) Swiggum, and Chad (Tommie) Flanders; 7 grandchildren, Tori Flanders, Hunter Best, Jonathan Oakland, Toni Jean Biery, Ryan (Bethany) Flanders, Chase Flanders, and Megan Flanders; and a brother Marvin (Trish) Flanders of New Mexico.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Puppy Jake Foundation.
