Melvin J. Bryant, 93 year-old resident of Newalla, OK, passed away at his home on Sept. 28, 2017. He was born in Milton, OK in 1924 and was a proud member of the Choctaw Indian tribe. Melvin served in the Navy in WWII, and assisted in the rebuilding of Pearl Harbor following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Melvin later had a career as an Iron Worker in commercial construction. He married Wanda Mae Bryant and went on to have two daughters, a son and 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Melvin was an avid Boxer and was very athletic. As a Grandpa, he loved taking the grandkids to parades and sporting events. Melvin was a faithful and dedicated OU fan his entire life.
His parents, his wife, Wanda Mae Bryant (October of 1990) and 4 brothers, preceded Melvin in death.
His son, Michael and wife Gail Bryant, two daughters, Kathy Phillips and her fiance' Michael Tidwell, and Patricia Monroe and her partner Mary Cable, 8 grandchildren, Tricia Lopez and fiance' Adam Harris; Melissa Monroe and fiance' Scott Shutz; John and his wife Michelle Phillips; Daniel and his wife Heather Phillips; James and his wife Jennifer Monroe; Ronald and his wife Jennifer Aldredge; Kevin and his wife Lacie Aldredge; and Tony and his wife Billie Grewing; 19 great-grandchildren survive him. Also surviving are his sisters, Wynona Terrill of Muskogee, and Lou Wanda "Poochie" Bryant of Del City, and his brother Howard Bryant of Talihina, OK, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73141 with burial to follow Military Honors by a U. S. Navy Honors Detail at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, Oklahoma.
