Melvin Walter Demmin, 92, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Country Manor in Farmington, Illinois. He was born on December 3, 1924 in Peoria, Illinois to Walter and Anna (Wall) Demmin. He married Barbara on November 6, 1948 in Peoria, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2012 in Bartonville. He was also preceded in death by his son in law, Dennis Bennett, two grandchildren and one brother.

Melvin is survived by five daughters, Dana (Keith) Johnston of East Peoria, Illinois, Dalene (David) Benson of Mapleton, Illinois, Danette Bennett of Bartonville, Illinois, Darla (Morry) Ross of Mapleton, Illinois and Darcy (Chris) Thompson of Bartonville, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Demmin of Texas and Gerald Demmin of Morton, Illinois and one sister, Cheryl Slater of Arkansas.

Melvin was a graduate of Manual High School in 1943, He entered the Army Air Corps in April of 1943 and survived 14 missions with the 8th Air Force Stationed at Attlebridge, England with the 466th bomb group flying B-24 Liberators. He was a POW for 9 months after an emergency landing in France and captured by the Germans. He was a Bradley University graduate in 1949. He was a Design Engineer for 35 years at Caterpillar Inc. Melvin was a member, former director and flight instructor for 45 years at the Bradley Flying Association.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11:00 am Saturday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be Monday, November 13, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
