Mr. Lewis was born on June 9, 1950 and passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

Mr. Lewis was a resident of Abingdon, Illinois at the time of passing.

He attended Abingdon schools and later earned his GED while serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed at Camp Casey in Korea.

Merland is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dianna; two daughters, Cher (Doug) Russell of Evans, Colorado and Samantha Martin (T.J. Simkins) of Abingdon; 5 grandchildren, Airman Chase Russell of Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, Kruz and Keegan Simkins of Abingdon, Tommy Martin of Camdenton, Missouri and Private Codie (Bridget) Martin of Schofield Army Barracks, Hawaii; 3 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred (Sharon) Lewis of Abingdon and Robert H. (Linda) Lewis of London Mills; a sister.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel with Military Rites at 5:30 p.m. by the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Visitation at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on March 20, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
