Mervel worked all through High School at Hutch Hilson's Grocery Store in Ft. Pierce. He worked for Borrows Office Equipment Company and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ft. Pierce. He was a Bible student & author.
Mervel was married to a girl from his church named Sandra Antlel, they had no children but adopted a girl.
