Michael Clyde Gosney, born in Sacramento on November 11, 1953, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2017. His parents were Jack Gosney (deceased) and Joan Meredith. He was a proud and loving man, who was devoted to his family and friends.

Born and raised in Sacramento, Michael attended Encina High School and graduated from Sacramento State University. He loved the mountains. Growing up, he spent many summers at the Stice family cabin, In his adult years, he was fortunate to have a cabin at 39 Mile Tract where he shared his love for the Sierra's with friends and family. One of his great joys in life was to host friends and family at the cabin where he shared stories of his skiing, hiking and rock climbing adventures.

Michael had a special relationship with his Grandfather Clyde and his wife Marion. Grandpa Clyde was the role model and provided Michael the support he needed to become the family man he was.

Self-proclaimed "lifelong bachelor," Michael fell in love at first sight with Kathy Toy in 1979. Happily married for 36 years, Mike and Kathy had two sons Christopher (Vicki) and Brian (Jasmine). Michael was an amazing father. From grade school to high school, he coached their baseball teams, volunteered at their schools, served in the PTA, and was the all-time quarterback for the neighborhood kids. During the Bancroft Elementary School years, Michael was known for organizing the Spring Carnival. It was his dedication to his boys, and service to the schools that led him to substitute teaching. Substituting from kindergarten to high school, "Mr. G" was loved by kids of all ages. Chris and Brian would later follow in their dad's footsteps, Chris as a high school teacher, and Brian as a community college counselor. Retiring from teaching, he devoted his time to his grandchildren, Jaya, Leah, Mary Anne, and Miles.

The second week of August was his favorite time of year. For the past 25+ years, Michael and his best friends, who date as far back as kindergarten, go to Butte Meadows for their annual camping trip. Sharing their love for the outdoors with their children, and grandchildren, Michael truly appreciated this special time with his family and friends.

Michael is survived by his wife Kathy, sons Chris and his wife Vicki, Brian and his wife Jasmine, four grandchildren, Jaya, Leah, Mary Anne and Miles, mother Joan Meredith, and grandmother Marion Gosney.

A Service to Celebrate the Life and Memory of Michael Clyde Gosney will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Sacramento Japanese United Methodist Church, 6929 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento. A reception will follow the service.
