TOPEKA ~ Michael Dene “Lumpy” Lumpkin, Sr., 55, of Topeka, passed away at 7:17 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Mason District Hospital Emergency Room in Havana.

Born July 29, 1961 in Lincoln to Herman Ernest and Marlene Jean (Whiteman) Lumpkin, Sr., he married Juanita Louise Loeffelmann on September 11, 2009 in Topeka.  She survives.

Also surviving are his four children, Alisha (Kris) Evans of Lincoln, Michael (RikkiAnn) Lumpkin, Jr. of Pekin, Dustin (Larissa) Lumpkin of South Pekin, and Samantha Lumpkin of Topeka; four step-children, Herbert Herberger, II, David Herberger and William Hockaday, both of Pekin, and Shannon Hockaday of Deer Creek; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman (Janice) Lumpkin, Jr. of Boston, Massachusetts; one sister, Marlene (Donnie) Passmore of Manito; and sister-in-law, Bobbi Lumpkin of San Jose.

His parents and one brother, Jeffery Lumpkin, preceded him in death.

Mike last worked for Eagle Services in Peoria.  He also had worked construction working for Rick Harr and Bob Menson.

He was a member of the Motorcycle Riders Association.

Mike enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, and watching NASCAR where he followed Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jimmie Johnson.  He loved to be with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.

His visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.  A service celebrating his life will follow at 6 p.m.  Cremation will be accorded following services.  Burial of cremated remains will be at Irish Grove Cemetery in Middletown at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help the Lumpkin family with funeral expenses.
