Michael J. Tartaglio, Jr.DDS, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2012. He was a wonderful encourager and friend to many. As quarterback, he led the Canton South High School Wildcats football team to 7th in the state in 1947. During the Korean War, he played on the Army baseball team. An amazing entertainer, he was asked to tour the officers' clubs upon being honorably discharged. Instead, Mike went on to graduate in 1961 from The Ohio State School of Dentistry, becoming known as "Dr. T., the singing dentist." Due to his gentle expertise, he helped both children and adults overcome their fear of the dentist. A long-term member of the Canton Dental Society, he served as past President. He also served many years as usher and Men's Choir member at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Mike was a former member of the Unique Club and enjoyed many great golf and tennis games over the years. When he sang Sinatra at karaoke, he kicked it up a notch and brought down the house. Mike was a beloved "Popo" not only to his grandchildren but also to their friends. He was a supportive father to his daughters and to many others that knew him. In November, he celebrated 56 years of marriage to his wife, Joyce (Higgs). Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Antoinette Tartaglio, sister Eleanor Arunski, brother Alfred and daughter Laura Tartaglio-Hatfield. He is survived by his brother Tony (Dot), sister Honey Bayer, brother David (JoAnn), daughters Sheree (Kevin) Boyle and Lisa (Rick) McClellan, grandchildren Michael, Cory, Katie and Sean Boyle and Mitchell, Connor and Spencer McClellan, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. We would like to recognize his special friend Phil DeSabatino. Calling hours will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 15 at First Friends Church, 5455 Market Ave. N, Canton, OH 44714. The family will receive friends and family one hour before the 11 AM service on Friday, March 16. A lunch for family and friends will immediately follow the service. Private burial will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J Tartaglio Memorial Fund at any Key Bank. The Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel is entrusted with the arraignments. Those wishing to share a fond memory or their condolences may sign the Reed on-line guestbook at our website www.reedfuneralhome.com
