Michael J. Austin, 71, of North Granby, passed away, Wednesday, November 23, 2016, after a long and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael handled this devastating disease with humor, grace, and dignity. Born in Akron, OH, he leaves his loving wife Sally after nearly 50 years of marriage; his sister, Kathy Rupp, sister-in-law Janice Penland, nieces and nephews, Diana, Paul, Lynne , Laura, Lisha ; and many great nieces and nephews; cousins, Mark, Lester, Linda, and his beloved cats, Cooper, Tara, Teddy, and Berkeley. Michael taught mathematics for 37 years at Enfield High School and was an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford for 8 years. He served as President of the Enfield Teacher's Association. He loved animals, woodworking, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, and had a passion for all things mechanical and math related. The family would like to thank Dr. Hong and Dr. Eisenberg and the many wonderful friends and caretakers who so lovingly supported him. His family will receive friends Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 5-8 pm at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 2, 2016, 10 am at the HayesHuling & Carmon Funeral Home, followed by burial at Silver Street Cemetery, Granville, MA.
