Obituary

Michael Warren Price, 62, passed away at his home on Between the Flags Farm in Airville, Pennsylvania on February 13th, 2021.
Born in West Chester on August, 29th 1958, Price grew up living and working on the horse farms of Unionville and elsewhere in southern Chester County. Known to many as "Big Mike", he was a gifted athlete and talented horseman and huntsman.

A 1977 graduate of Unionville High School, Price worked as a carpenter and homebuilder, helping restore many area farmhouses and barns. Foxhunting was his truest passion until the very end of his life. He was involved with the sport across Chester County and worked as a professional huntsman at clubs in Georgia, Colorado, and Ohio. He later kept his own pack of foxhounds in Middletown, Del., and most recently hunted with the Cochran Hunt and the Rose Tree Blue Mountain Hunt in Chester and York counties.

Uniquely able to think like the fox, he always knew where the next tally ho would be.

In addition to foxhunting, Price had a passion for horseracing, specifically the area's famed steeplechases. He was a fixture each year at the Pennsylvania and Maryland hunt cups, and many other area races. He trained his own horses to compete and rode himself in races at Willowdale and Brandywine.

He was also known for hurdling, on foot, the Maryland Hunt Cup's notorious 3rd/13th fence, an act he was able to perform well into his later life.

With a personality as large as his physical form, Price was a prolific storyteller and unmissable presence in any room he entered. Above all, he held an intense love for his family and took great pride in the growth and accomplishments of his loved ones.

Price is survived by his two adult children, Amanda Price and Michael N. Price and wife Emily of Downingtown; his longtime fiancée Lisa King and her two children, Amanda and Tyler Ballard; two living siblings, Harry W. Price III, and Beth Foard, his father Harry Price Jr., and many other beloved relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Timmy Price, and his mother, Patricia Markl.

A fitting celebration of Michael's life will be announced when circumstances allow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Steeplechase Injured Jockeys fund, 22359 Polecat Hill Road, Middleburg, VA 20117, or to the Open Land Conservancy of Chester County, at www.openlandconservancy.org/donate.
