Mildred "Millie" Augusta Ferguson of Hillsboro, Oregon was born on August 26, 1923 in Shell City, Missouri to parents Thomas Herrold and Sarah (Vantellman) Herrold.
Millie's family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon when she was a teenager. There, she met her lifetime sweetheart Ed Ferguson and they were married on June 30, 1941. Millie and Ed settled on their homesteaded property five miles south of Hillsboro and raised two children.
Together, Millie and Ed were egg producers, maintaining a free-range poultry farm with as many as 5,000 chickens with the Oregon Egg Producers Co-Op. Millie was responsible for quality control, cleaning and packaging, which she performed daily. Millie also took care of chick hatching and raising to layer hens. In addition, she managed the household and other farm duties with routine structure and attention to detail.
Millie was known to receive anyone that came to visit with open arms, delicious food and company, whether they were neighborhood children, friends or family. She was especially known for her fried chicken! Millie and Ed enjoyed camping, fishing and she often came home with the biggest catch.
Millie is survived by her grandchildren: Tamra Van Steenburgh, Tom and Lynne Fergusson, and Richard and Michelle Fergusson; step grandchildren: Mike Weisenbach, Alan Weisenbach and Carolyn Losinger; great grandchildren: Ethan Van Steenburgh, Gavin Van Steenburgh, Hayden Van Steenburgh, Drew Fergusson, Ally Fergusson, and Daphne Fergusson; and step great grandchildren: Brandon Weisenbach, Wendy Landolt, Jennifer Thompson, and Joshua Losinger; her siblings: Neoma and Lloyd Hughes, Eleanor Liming, and Marvin and Marianne Herrold; and her sisters-in-law Margaret Folsom and Frances Gross. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Sydney Ferguson, son Robert Walter Ferguson, and daughter Margaret Mary Ferguson West.
Millie's kind heart and gentle nature will be missed. Please join the celebration Millie's life with her family at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR, on Saturday, June 3rd at 3 p.m.
