Mildred R. Cuneo, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, March 16, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Newark to the late Joseph and Frances Intrabartolo, she resided in East Orange before moving to Piscataway in 1965. Her first job at age 18, was a purchasing agent for the Army Air Force for which she was responsible for procuring the airplane parts during World War II. At the end of the war, she was offered a position at the Pentagon working for a Colonel, but she declined the offer at her father's insistence, as he didn't want his single daughter to move away from home. She later was employed at Berkeley Savings and Loan in Newark as a bank teller and accountant for 20 years before retiring in 1965. Mildred was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and it's Altar Rosary Society, the North Plainfield Italian American Club Ladies Auxilary, the Center for Italian and Italian American Culture, the Opera Guild of NJ and the Lupus Foundation of America. She also was a girl scout leader, volunteered teaching CCD to the mentally handicapped and made brail books for the blind. She was a compassionate and devoted wife, mother and friend who loved sports, cooking and crafts and to laugh. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 2010, her son, Peter, and an older brother, Mario Bartolo. Surviving are her loving daughter, Mary Ellen Cuneo of Piscataway with whom she resided and her dearest brother, Vincent Intrabartolo of Mount Arlington. She was also the loving mother of three other children from her late husband's previous marriage, whom she raised. Visitation hours will be Tuesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Rd., Piscataway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, New Market Rd., Piscataway. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Lung Association National Headquarters 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800. Washington, DC 20004.
