Miriam Louise (Epler) Hiester, 88, of Reading, passed away peacefully in Maidencreek Place on Friday, June 23, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late Russell John Hiester. Russell passed away in 1995.

Born in West Reading on May 12, 1929, she was a daughter of the late John and M. Elizabeth Epler. Miriam was a 1947 graduate of West Reading High School. In her early years, she was employed with Berks Trust Company as a depositor in the main office. Later, she was employed as a pharmacy technician with Rundles Pharmacy for over 25 years before she retired in 1999.

Miriam was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Reading and often volunteered at the food bank at the church. She enjoyed golfing and tending to her rose garden. She traveled often with friends and family. Some of the vacations she liked best were Las Vegas, Alaska and the Bahamas. Although Miriam's mother was known for her superb Christmas cookies, Miriam's were just as delicious and she liked making them.

Surviving are two sons: Douglas S. Hiester and his wife, Chun C. of Leesport and Scott A. Hiester and his wife, Rita L. of Reading.; three grandchildren: Homer R. Hiester, Scott A. Hiester, Jr. and Catherine E. (Hiester) Puma and her husband, Anthony and two step grandchildren: Javier F. Pedraza and Michele N. Pedraza.

Also surviving are two sisters: Nancy (Epler) Sanner of Kutztown and Daisy (Epler) Pensinger and her husband, Robert of Topton.

In addition to her parents and her husband; Miriam is predeceased by three sisters: Ellen (Epler) Ream Trout, Margaret (Epler) Ball and Patricia (Epler) Ely and two brothers: John Epler and James Epler.

Services for Miriam will be at 12:30pm on Friday, June 30, 2017 in Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Friday from 10 :30am to 12:30pm. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Reading.
