Murray E. Huffman son of Ezra E. Huffman and Georgia L. (Cox) Huffman departed this life on October 17, 2017. He squeezed every ounce of life out of his body that he possibly could, often defying his medical expert's expectations.
His life story is the American success story. Growing up on the farm in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, he was taught hard work by his father and love of family by his mother. As his generation did, he migrated off the farm to build America in her factories of Northern Illinois. It was there that he raised family and lived life.
He was an adroit labor organizer serving as President of UAW local 803. Murray spent his off time supporting his children's interests, or enjoying the outdoors in a variety of sports. He never had a bad day on the lake or in the woods. Bringing old clocks back to life became a passion after he professionally retired.
He is preceded in death by his parents, both siblings, his wife of 40 years Willie (Mickey) and daughter Ann J. Ball of Natural Bridge, NY. He is survived by his son Robert L. Huffman and daughter-in-law Donna of Tennessee. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of those involved in Murray's care during his final days on earth.
A service to celebrate Murray's life will be 10:00 am Monday October 23, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park; visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
