Myrtle Nell Johnson was born in Kaufman, Texas on June 6, 1938 to Norval Johnson and Christine Manning.
Myrtle moved to Portland, Oregon with her mother where she attend Washington High School. Myrtle worked for the Portland School District and then retired from the State of Oregon Social Services after more than 25 years.
Myrtle was a longtime member of Allen Temple CME Church where she served as a stewardess and a missionary. In particular, Myrtle enjoyed working with her friends at the Allen Temple Emergency Aide Center.
Myrtle had various hobbies. She loved to fish in any body of water she could find as well as shop for and make her own clothing, hats, curtains and furniture. Myrtle had a passion for cooking for her family. Myrtle had a knack for tasting something at a restaurant and replicating it at home. Most of all, Myrtle's family will miss her homemade jelly she gave them every year for Christmas.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Vassie LaSane, Uncle Arthur Jackson, two sisters, Ponstance Gadsden and Morzetta Culp as well as her grandchildren Jeffrey Thompson and Morzetta Baker.
Left to celebrate Myrtle's life are her children Brenda Thompson, Brooxia Nichols, Toni Keller (Harold), Janet Long (Freddie), Tyrone Hiner (Letrese), and Lisa Daniels (Bennie). Grandchildren Larry Summerfield Jr. (Andrea), Richard Howard Jr, Michael Booker (Dana) , Frankie Kelsaw, April Cuie (Jerome), Toni Keller Jr., Erika Darby, Tanisha Hiner, Tyrone Hiner Jr., Jermaine Robinson, Simone Thomas, Tyrisha Hiner, Ashley Long, Tyrontae Hiner, Sarina Hiner, Jeffrey Hiner, Ruby Hiner, Jade Hiner and one nephew Charvell Douglas. A host of great- grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, as well as beloved cousins from Portland, Vancouver, Denver, Dallas, and St Louis.
Myrtle Nell Kelsaw departed her earthly life on June 3, 2017. Myrtle's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
