Nancy Witton Bailey, 93, of Crystal Lake, Illinois passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born in Medford, Massachusetts on October 6, 1923 to Clifton and Elsie (Lovegren) Leavis. Nancy graduated from Lasell Junior College and later worked as a medical secretary in Massachusetts and in Minnesota. She married Austin James Bailey, Jr. on January 5, 1946.
Nancy was well known for her extraordinary knitting skills. She made beautiful blankets and sweaters for everyone in the family, had a great sense of fashion and loved to buy clothes for her family members. She was a great cook and enjoyed taking cooking classes from Verna Meyer in Minneapolis. In 1967 she and the family were transferred to Linkoping, Sweden. They lived there from 1967-1970, while her husband worked as a test pilot for Honeywell. She was a loving mother to her three daughters and son, whom she raised with a gentle heart and open arms. Her love and support extended beyond her family. She had many close friends whose lives were also touched by her good humor and natural affection.
She had an undying affection for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but most of all for her husband, her best friend for 81 years. Her love for him blossomed in junior high when he would climb the tree outside her window at night to tell her stories and secrets. Their love survived two wars, inspired everyone who knew them, and will live on in the hearts of her family. The core of Nancy's life was a never ending love story. Their care for each other has left each of their children with a clear understanding about what true love means.
She is survived by her husband, her three daughters, Dale Norris (Rick Christman), Deborah (Robert) Rosulek and Dawn Bailey, and one son, Austin J. Bailey III, her ten grandchildren, Christopher Norris, Katherine (Tony) Erwin, Amy (Rett) Erickson, Andrew (Wendi) Rosulek, Nancy (Daniel) Kramer, Christine (Jacob) White, Carly (Steve) De Castro, Lindsey Bailey, Rose Bailey and Grace Bailey, her ten great-grandchildren, Kayla (Sterling) Wilkes, Alex Erwin, Jonathon Norris, Aaron Norris, Cooper White, Elliott Kramer, Gideon Kramer, Lucetta Kramer, Allagash Rosulek and Milada Rosulek as well as one great-great-grandchild, Oliver Wilkes, and her nephew and four nieces in New England. She is preceded in death by her brother, Clifton Leavis, and granddaughter, Claire Bailey.
