Nathan Harding passed away on July 30, 2017 of natural causes. He was 90 years old.
Nathan Robert Harding, Jr. was born June 16, 1927, the third of four brothers, in Curry County, New Mexico. His family moved to Parmer County, Texas when he was four years old.
He attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years before transferring to Texas Tech University. After graduating Tech in 1951 with a Masters in Government, he was called to the ministry and enrolled in Southwestern Theological Seminary, eventually receiving a Master of Divinity degree.
He married Mary Joyce Rolland in 1954 and they moved to Odessa in 1957. After a short two-year stint in Lubbock, they returned to Odessa in 1963 and started a family. Sherie came along in 1965, followed by Jack in 1966.
In addition to serving as a Chaplain in the Naval Reserve, Nathan pastored several small churches throughout West Texas before turning to education, teaching in the Ector County Independent School District for over 25 years until his retirement in 1990.
He was passionate about his faith in Jesus Christ and manifested that through his 65-year membership in the Masonic Lodge and his devotion to his church - First Baptist Church of Odessa.
He is pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years, Mary Joyce Harding and his second wife (of 8 years), Dorothy Newton Harding. He is survived by an extended family of numerous nieces and nephews and by his immediate family that includes his third wife Chloe Cornell Harding of Odessa, his son Jack Harding of Tujunga, CA and his daughter Sherie Carroll of Glendale, CA. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 at 1st Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas with Dr. Byron McWilliams, officiating. Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
