Neale McCoy Smith son of the late Clifford and Helena Smith was born on September 24, 1931 in Burbank California. He and his two brothers were raised in Burbank being one of the first residents in Burbank.

Neale attended UCLA majoring in sociology graduating in 1958. He interrupted his university studies to join the United States Navy. He was a Navy aviator from July 15, 1952 through July 13, 1956. Soon after graduating he joined the Los Angeles County Probation Department, he made Probation his career retiring as a Director in 1989.

A "jock" forever perhaps too much so! For years he ran miles and miles and ultimately destroyed his knees. He then transitioned to bicycle riding for miles and miles. Eventually his age and health forced him to ride a stationary bike, in Neal's inimitable way he would ride 90 to 100 minutes a day. Neale enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. He was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. He loved spending time at Mammoth and June Lakes. Neale enjoyed travelling through out the United States, Sedona being his favorite spot.

Neale leaves behind a devoted wife, Ellie of 31 years. He is also survived by his daughters; Dana, Kimberly and Andrea. A son Scott, two step sons Barry and David and numerous grand children, great grandchildren and a array of nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers and his daughter Kitty.

Neale gently passed away on June 24, 2017 in the presence of family. While the reality of his passing is difficult it gives us the opportunity to celebrate his life. A good man, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
