Nikolai Alexander Gabriel Smith, the son of Scott and Denise (Downey) Smith passed away on October 29, 2017 from complications of pneumonia. He was 34 years old.


Nikolai is survived by his parents, his sisters Erin Leigh and Sarah, as well as his niece Brooke of Novato, Ca. Also his grandparents; Warren and Judy Smith of Novato and David Vickey, Sr. of East Taunton, Ma. His beloved aunts and uncles: Mary Lou, Martin and Lisa, of East Taunton, Ma.; David and Wendy Vickey of Rehobeth, Ma.; Robin and Richard Cardoza of Stoughton, Ma.; Jeff and Nikki Smith of Auburn, Ca.; and Todd and Rochelle Smith of Folsom, Ca. He will be missed by his many cousins and especially his long time friend and roommate Ben Lind of Santa Rosa, Ca.


Nikolai attended special education classes at Vallecito Elementary in San Rafael, Ca. and later moved to the Junior Blind of America (formally known as the Foundation for the Junior Blind) in Culver City, Ca. From there he moved to The Therapeutic Living Center for the Blind in Reseda, Ca. where he resided until his death.


Nik loved swimming, music, (especially reggae and rock), dancing with his mom, bowling, and "going home." He was particularly fond of apples and his toy cars.


Nikolai participated in the Special Games at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for many years and won many ribbons for his swimming. He was also a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Novato, Ca.


He is preceded in death by his grandmother Edna (Douglas) Vickey of East Taunton, Ma. and his great grandparents, Ted and Edna Weiner of San Francisco, Ca. Also his beloved Uncle George of Brockton, Ma.
