Norma Jean (Fletcher, Reames) Smith
Born: June 9, 1930
Died: December 19, 2017

With great sadness, we had to say our final goodbyes to our dear mother Norma Jean as she passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Norma is survived by Susan Alipour and husband Bobby (Plano, Texas), Cindy Reames (Plano, Texas), Cassandra Reames (Celeste, Texas), Lawrence Reames III and wife Bea (Aubrey, Texas), 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Jeanne Reames, husbands Lawrence Reames and Lowell Smith, sister Irene Bowman, mother Bessie Storie Fletcher, and father James E. Fletcher.

Norma Jean was a beautiful, independent, and smart woman who always tried to live her life with dignity and class. As a career woman, she started as a Secretary at Tinker AFB in 1966 and worked her way to being a Supervisory Management Assistant Chief over the Propulsion Division. She won many awards for being one of the top supervisors at Tinker and was also the party planner for many departments there as well. She retired in 1986 after 20 years.

As a mother, her family was her life. She loved her daughters, son-in-law, son, and many grandchildren with all her heart. After she retired, Norma built a beautiful house on Lake Eufaula where her family and many friends spent holidays making long lasting memories fishing, swimming, and cooking out.

She was such a strong woman even though she lost her oldest daughter Jeannie to meningitis at the tender age of 10. The loss of Jeannie had a major impact on her life as well as the lives of her remaining children. She also lost two husbands (Lawrence Reames and Lowell Smith) to cancer and took care of them both in their final days.

She lived her later years in Plano, Texas with her family close by. The last 1.5 years were spent at Sunrise Memory Care (Plano, Texas) with a wonderful nursing staff who lovingly took care of her in her last days as her health declined due to Alzheimer's.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Society.
