Norma Morris Shoemaker, 62, of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Richard Floyd Shoemaker, Sr. for 38 years. Norma and her husband had known each other for 42 years, and Richard was the love of her life.

Born on August 1, 1955 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Morris and the late Katie Staton Morris. Norma was an assistant manager with Dollar General, where she loved her job and the customers that came in. She was also co-owner of Shoemaker's Termite and Pest Control where she took pride in working alongside her husband, and she considered this to be one of her greatest accomplishments. Norma enjoyed going to Atlantic City, playing the slot machines, and got to take one final trip a few weeks ago. She was a member of the Moose Lodge 715 on Lakeside Drive where she enjoyed volunteering for many years. She was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kenny Wright; sister, Linda Morris; brother, Melvin Morris; her father and mother-in-law, Willie and Mildred Shoemaker; her grandparents, Charlie and Hattie Morris; two uncles, Robert Morris and Leonard Morris; and a nephew, Andy Morris.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Shirley Morris and husband Chuck, Teresa Fulks, Richard Shoemaker, Jr., Tammy Hamlett and husband Rodney, Christopher Burks, and Randy Burks; thirteen grandchildren, Ashley Cash and husband Rondell, Thomas Flaherty and wife Michelle, Brandon Shoemaker, William Fulks, Joey Shoemaker, Cheyenne Hamlett, Joshua Hamlett, Dalton Shoemaker, Mike Morris and wife Jessie, Cody Morris, Christopher Burks, Raven Burks, and Dakota Burks; six great grandchildren, Amanda Flaherty, Makenzie Flaherty, Victoria Flaherty, Ivy Burks, Landon Morris and Lynnix Morris; sister, Brenda Griffin and husband Larry; and two special aunts, Lucille Vaughn and Margaret Mayberry.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Emaculate Tebit at Lynchburg Hemotology, Tammy Tweedy at Seven Hills Home Health, and the Dollar General Staff for their care and support during Norma's illness.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

A funeral service will be held 11 am on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with Dr. Derik Hamby officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
