Olga G. Herbek, 92, of Charlottesville, Va., passed away on October 18, 2017, after a brief illness. Olga was born on August 11, 1925, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of George and Elizabeth Solomon. Olga married the love of her life, the late Charles M Herbek (UVa ’46) in 1950. They lived in Seaford, New York and in 1967 moved to Bridgewater, New Jersey. In 1992, they moved to Charlottesville, Va. She and her husband raised 2 sons, LTC. Charles M. Herbek USA (Ret) [UVa ‘74] and David G. Herbek.

Olga graduated from Towson State Teacher College in 1945 and began her teaching career in Baltimore City which she continued for a time in Seaford, N.Y. During her life she held several professional positions from Sales Training for the A&S Department Store on Long Island, Office Manager for a firm in Manhattan, N.Y., and finally as an Employment Counselor for the State of New Jersey.

Olga and her husband enjoyed traveling their entire lives. They were fortunate to have visited 6 continents. Olga and Charley were blessed with some extraordinary lifelong friendships. They literally traveled the world with family and good friends. From San Francisco to Sydney from New York to Moscow and whenever possible they were cruising on the Oceans and Seas of the world.

Olga was preceded in death by her husband, Charles of 60 years; her sister, Doris Solomon Ramsay; brother-in-law, Dr. Claude B. Ramsay DDS; and brother-in-law, John Hartmann. She is survived by her two sons, Charles M. Herbek and his wife, Cheri of Fredericksburg, Va. and David G. Herbek of Manassas, Va.; and sister-in-law, Ann Herbek Hartman of Port Orange, Fla. She had five adoring grandchildren, Maj. Michael J. Herbek (USA) and his wife, Jenifer, Mathew Herbek and his husband, Ryan, Laura A. Herbek, David J. Herbek, and Kathleen E. Herbek; four energetic great grandchildren, Ethan, Ava, Olivia, and Isaac; and loving nieces and nephew, Deborah Bienert, Denise Vigliotti, Dianne Grande, Krissy Anderson, and Kevin Hartman.

Friends may call at Teaque Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at St Thomas Aquinas Church in Charlottesville on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Olga Herbek’s name to a charity of choice.
