Jean Nielson knew how to celebrate life.

Known for her festive touches that brightened every occasion and her tireless volunteer efforts, Jean dedicated her entire life to putting others before herself. She was able to spend time with friends and family before she passed away in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

Born in Richfield, Utah to Elbert "Al" and Ora McInelly Soper, she headed to Utah State University after graduating from Richfield High School where she married the love of her life her freshman year, Charles "Chuck" Nielson. Wedded on December 28, 1960 in the Manti LDS Temple, they made an extraordinary couple. Their exemplary marriage was filled with love and laughter-and fishing and bowling-that lasted over 50 years, until Chuck's passing.

Jean spent many years of her life with Chuck in Lindrith, New Mexico and treasured the many friendships they made there over the years. An active member of the community known for her endless energy, she was devoted to volunteering for the Lindrith Fire Department, the Lindrith Recreation Association, the LLACCA and the Lindrith Annual Valentine's Dinner and Auction.

When she wasn't entertaining family and friends, building puzzles, or rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, Jean enjoyed putting strategy and luck to the test participating in different gambling recreations, from slot machines to table games.

Jean will be greatly missed by her family who will cherish her memory and continue her loving legacy of selflessness. She is survived by: two sons, Jon Nielson and his wife Tami of Floydada, Texas, and Michael Nielson and his husband Les Posey of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Crystal Rea and her husband David of Lubbock, Texas and Seth Nielson and his wife Letti, of Amarillo, Texas; three great grandchildren, Colton, Ethan and Ellisyn Rea; and two sister-in-law's, MarLynn and Donna Soper. In addition to her parents Al and Ora, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband Chuck and two brothers, Jack and Jim Soper.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the WinStar World Casino, Thackerville, OK.
