Otto Laible, 82, passed away September 21, 2017 after a long battle with Cancer. He was born October 6, 1934 on Long Island, New York where he spent his formative years. His parents were Katharina and Otto, both German immigrants who met in New York. In 1956, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Accounting.
Otto spent his early career working in Manhattan with several corporations such as Singer, GE and Kraft Foods. In 1971, he moved the family to Chicago to work at the Kraft headquarters. In 1974, Otto made the bold decision to leave the corporate world to buy a franchise in Houston, Texas. Otto built a successful business as an Aamco Transmissions dealer and with the assistance of his three sons, operated 4 locations within the Houston area. He was the President of the Houston Aamco Dealers Association for more than a decade.
Otto enjoyed traveling and experienced most of the world. He explored all parts of the US during family car trips with his young family. He and Gloria took several extensive vacations to Europe, Egypt, Israel and Turkey.
Otto thrived on a good political debate amongst friends. He prided himself on keeping attune to the current events of the day and always agreed to disagree with those with differing opinions.
During the last 9 years of his life, Otto enjoyed entertaining his family at his waterfront home on Lake Conroe where he loved tending to his beautiful garden.
Otto is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria, his son Jim (wife Susan) and grandchildren Erica and Miranda, son Glenn (husband Jim), son Tim (wife Faith) and grandchildren Michael and Robyn, brother Robert (wife Barbara) and brother Bill (wife Nancy).
A celebration of life will be held on October 21, 2017 (2 PM) at Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, TX 77339. Refreshments following the service.
Memorial Donations may be made in Otto's name to the Salvation Army.
