Patricia D. Ryan, 82, of Newton, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia, after a courageous battle with lung disease. Born in New York City, New York, Mrs. Ryan graduated from Cathedral High School and attended Hunter College in Manhattan. She lived in The Bronx before moving to Newton in 1963. She was the secretary at St. Joseph's R. C. Church in Newton from 1984 until her retirement in 1999. Following her retirement, she was a bookkeeper for Saint Paul's Abbey in Andover Township. A member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Mrs. Ryan was a member and former secretary of the Columbiettes. The daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Delany) Plunkett, Mrs. Ryan was also predeceased by her husband, Michael J. Ryan, on December 23, 2001, and two brothers, Joseph and James Plunkett. She is survived by eleven children: Dr. Michael Ryan of Austin, Texas; Joseph Ryan and wife, Liz, of Hampton Township; Gerry Ryan and wife, Charlene, of Newton; Mary Herrmann and husband, Ret. Colonel Kevin, of Stafford, Virginia; Patty Ryan of Newton, and fiancée, Steve Gurda, of Middletown, New York; Jimmy Ryan and wife, Laurie, of River Vale; Kathleen Savioli of Port Charlotte, Florida; Anne Mallozzi and husband, Frank, of Stillwater; Robert Ryan and wife, Marie, of Frankford; Lizz Chiasson of Kennebunk, Maine; and Peg Newton and husband, Rich, of Milford, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Marion Plunkett and Anne Fee, both of Orangeburg, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Newton. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph R.C.
