Patricia P. (Payne) Wentzell, 62, of South Windsor, died Wednesday (April 19, 2006) at Hartford Hospital with her family by her side. Patty was born in Chattanooga, TN on July 4, 1943. She lived in South Windsor for the past 30 years. She grew up in Atlanta, GA and has previously lived in Los Gatos and San Jose, CA, Burlington, VT and Taipei, Taiwan. Patty attended Dominican College in New Orleans, LA. She managed diabetes for 35 years and recently battled kidney failure, heart disease, and leukemia. All who knew Patty admired her courage and strength to fight a seemingly unrelenting battle against her many illnesses. Patty loved the mountains of Vermont and the beaches of Maine as well as reading The New Yorker every week. In addition to her work as a bookkeeper, Pat was a Girl Scout leader for 20 years and enjoyed leading troops from Brownies to Senior Scouts. Recently, Pat spent many hours quilting at the Hartford artisans' Center at the Connecticut Institute for the Blind. Patty is survived by her two children Katherine Wentzell of Boston, MA and Jason Payne Nottingham of Tacoma WA and by Timothy Wentzell, of South Windsor, to whom she was married for 25 years. She is also survived by her mother Doris Payne of Atlanta GA; her brother John Payne of Thomasville GA; her sisters Carole Davis of Atlanta, GA, Jeanne Madere of Diamondhead MS, and Lisa Guttshall of Houston TX; and her grandson Reed Nottingham of Tacoma, WA. She is predeceased by her father Gordon Payne. The family will be welcoming friends at 3 p.m. on Thursday April 27, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m., at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd.
