Patrula "Pat" Hultquist, 94, of Fort Wayne, crossed over on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Born June 4, 1922, in Fort Wayne, Pat was the daughter of Mary Slentz and James Lambrakis. She attended Harrison Hill Elementary School (where she and her friend, Mary Ann Miller, frequently got into trouble for "getting the giggles" during class) and South Side High School, graduating in 1940. She met her future husband, Army Air Force Lieutenant Les Hultquist in 1943 and they were married after he returned from overseas in 1945. They had one son, James L. Hultquist, and were happily married for 52 years until Leslie's passing in 1997. She worked in the traffic department of Essex Wire and later United Technologies for 25 plus years and after retiring from United Tech., worked several years at Lincoln National Bank. Her love of animals led her to become a volunteer at The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo for seven years. Pat also loved to bowl and spent many enjoyable evenings and weekends bowling with her family and friends at Smitty's Lanes in Waynedale. She also bowled in several national tournaments. Her other sporting interests included a love for the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox. She was particularly thrilled to see, along with her son, Jim, the White Sox win the World Series in 2005, ending an 88 year drought. To Pat and her family, no home was complete without a dog and every single dog she and her family cared for and lived with, became a family member. She also belonged to numerous animal rights and charity groups and was an avid reader. Perhaps most important of all she was a loving and wonderful wife and mother with a beautiful smile. She never met a person she didn't like. Pat is survived by her son, Jim at home and their beautiful Husky / Shepherd mix dog, Bear. Other survivors include her many wonderful friends. She was preceded in passing by her mother, Mary Slentz; aunt, Lana Slentz; father, James Lambrakis; and her beloved husband, Les Hultquist. Finally, a thank you and a message for everyone who loved, cared about, and was a friend to Pat, from her son, Jim. Please remember two things "Mom" always liked to say - "Your presence is a present", and "Enjoy the present moment because the present is a gift and that's why they call it the present". An informal memorial service in her honor and celebrating her wonderful life is 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation at 12:30 p.m. Hospice chaplain Chris McPherson officiating. Preferred memorials to the Allen County S.P.C.A. or Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.
