Paul E. Ahonen Jr., 87 of Ludlow, VT died on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his residence with his wife by his side. He was born in Ludlow on December 5, 1928; the son of the late Paul E. Ahonen Sr. and Florence (Thomas) Henderson.

He received his education in a one room school house in Ludlow and Reading and later received his GED from Black River High School. In 1946 he joined the U.S. Navy and served for two years. After returning home he worked at Gay Brother's Woolen Mill in Cavendish. In 1951 he began working at Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield where he worked for 36 years retiring as the Assembly Manager in 1987.

In 1950 he married the love of his life, Freda Hemenway. During their 65 years of marriage the couple built their home where they raised their four children and made many happy memories. Paul was a man of his word who always put his family first. He passed his passion for hunting and fishing on to several generations. He enjoyed running his rabbit dogs, riding the back roads, country auctions, playing cards with friends and spending time with his family.
Paul will be remembered for his independence, strong work ethic and stubborn ways.

He is predeceased by his sisters, Luella Tyrrell and Pearl Matulonis; a brother, Walter Ahonen and a grandson, Aaron Cavoto.
He is survived by his loving wife, Freda; two daughters, Brenda Cavoto and her husband Al of Mt. Holly and Sandy Thomas and her husband Brian of Shrewsbury; two sons, Gregory Ahonen and his wife Wendy of Post Falls, Idaho, and Michael Ahonen of Mt. Holly; nine grandchildren, Albert Cavoto, Dan Cavoto, Shay Hewitt, James Ahonen, Robby Ahonen, Cody Ahonen, Ryan Ahonen, Nicholas Thomas and Dylan Thomas; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be having a memorial in the spring to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ludlow Ambulance Squad. The Adams Funeral Home, Ludlow, VT is assisting the family with arrangements.
