Paul Lawrence Jackson was born to Andrew & Gladys Jackson in a house on Buchanan Street in Nashville Tennessee on February 15, 1929. He was the 3rd son of 4 children. He was preceded in death by brothers Ernest and Tom and is survived by his sister, Georgia Haynie.

He attended North High School and, 3 months after his December graduation, married his high school sweetheart, Lillie Irene Wright (now Jackson) on March 5, 1948.

He began serving as an apprentice steam-fitter then was drafted into the military in January 1952, serving in the Marines for 2 years. At the ripe old age of 23 he was considered, and called, "The Old Man" of his unit.

After boot camp, which was the only time he was separated from Irene, they were stationed in Miami Florida.

Miami was good for Paul and Irene. There they met John Cupp, who was a strong influence on Paul, and there he and was baptized into Christ. Additionally, Paul Lawrence Jackson, Jr. (aka Larry) was born there in 1953. Larry is married to Judith and they have 2 boys, Mark Jordan (married to April) and Paul Thomas (married to Jenifer).

After his discharge from the Marines in January 1954, the family moved back to Nashville and he "turned out" as a journeyman in March, 1954.

In July 1956 their favorite, and only, daughter Hattie Sue was born. Sue is married to Jim Thweatt and they have 4 children, Jennifer Michelle Shipman (married to Will), Jeffrey Martin (married to Claire), Matthew James (married to Jessica), and David Jackson (aka DJ who is engaged to Alexis).

The family was long-time members at Joywood church of Christ, where both children were baptized and Paul served as a deacon. They began attending

Jackson Park Church of Christ in the mid 1970s, where, again, Paul served as a deacon.

Paul loved music. He loved to sing and often led singing at church. He also enjoyed playing his guitar-pickin' and grinnin' with friends.

Paul was employed by Reynolds Brothers Mechanical Contractors for many years then worked for Honeywell and retired from there in the early 1990s.

His hobbies in retirement included woodworking, being a handyman for all his friends and neighbors, and making Irene happy.

In addition to their 6 grandchildren, They have 7 great grandchildren:

1. Emily Jackson

2. Jordan Jackson

3. Georgia Shipman

4. Audrey Jackson

5. Victoria Shipman

6. Chelsey Thweatt

7. James Thweatt

And he is preceded in death by twin great granddaughters: Ella and Emma Shipman.

Paul died peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, November 8.

Present were long-time friend and Christian brother Wallace Kinkade, children Larry & Sue, and--holding his hand until his final breath--his loving wife of 69 years, Irene.
