Paula Merwin passed away at her home in Prineville, Oregon on the 7th of August, 2014 after losing a brave battle to cancer.

She was born to Harold and Ruth (Young) Kinzer on July 12, 1945 in Prineville, Oregon. Paula married John Merwin on July 6, 1970, and the couple enjoyed 44 years of marriage. Over those years, Paula and John made their livelihood tug boating on the Columbia River, and ranching in Paulina's "Upper Country" and in the Chewaucan Valley of Paisley. Paula is survived by her husband, John; daugher and son-in-law, Millie and Dennis O'Leary; son, Paul Merwin; granddaughters Julia and Ashley O'Leary; sister, Carol (Kinzer) Buzard; brother, Allen "Butch" Kinzer; and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dinnis Kinzer.

Paula's friends and loved ones will most remember her wonderful sense of humor and her nurturing instinct towards family and friends alike. She was a proud member of the PauMau Club. Paula was a talented and generous cook, as anyone who entered her home could attest to. She loved to garden, and she had a soft spot for animals.

Paula was a true patriot and an ardent fan of President Reagan. He once remarked, "We believe faith and freedom must be our guiding stars, for they show us truth, they make us brave, give us home, and leave us wiser than we were." Her friends and loved ones will remember a woman whose faith and hope made her both brave and wise and she will be sincerely missed.

Memorial contributions can be made in Paula's name to the Crook County Historical Society. 246 N. Main, Prineville, OR 97754

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
