Peggy Cherry Cox, 93, of Lumberton, Mississippi passed away Sunday, September 25, 2015 in Forrest General Hospital.

Funeral services will be at Lumberton United Methodist Church, W 11th Avenue & 6th Street, Lumberton, on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Keith Hagenson and Rev. Glenn Freeman will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in Lumberton City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Will Selman, Harper Carson, John Ladner, Dorman Davis, Michael Smith, and Terry Swilley.

Peggy was born January 3, 1922 in Vernon Parish, Louisiana to James A. Cherry, Sr. and Winnie Bennett Cherry.

Peggy and her husband Carl met at Ole Miss Pharmacy School in the 1940's. They were the pharmacists and owners of Lumberton Drug Store for many years.

Peggy enjoyed a very active life, with church and community activities being very important to her. In 2001, Peggy was awarded "Citizen of the Year" by the Lumberton Economic Development Council. One of her great loves was serving the poor in Honduras and teaching them Christianity. Contributing time and financial assistance brought great joy to her. Peggy enjoyed each and every activity at Lumberton United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Robert Carl Cox; and one brother, James A. Cherry, Jr.

Family members include one nephew, James A. Cherry, III and his wife Adelaide; one niece, Gale Cherry Carson and her husband, O.J.; four great-nieces, Julia Cherry Miller, Susan Cherry Batchelder, Christine Cherry Selman, Mary Louise Carson; and one great-nephew Harper Carson.
