Peter Anthony McGarvey, II, 67, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at his home.
Services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Tiny Freelen officiating. Burial will follow at the McGarvey Farm. The family will receive friends from 6 - 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Peter, the son of Peter Anthony McGarvey, Sr. and Mary Margaret Suver McGarvey, was born March 25, 1950, in Johnstown, OH.
He grew up in Johnstown, OH. Peter always said he wasn't born in Texas, but he got here as soon as he could.
He joined the United States Army serving as a door gunner on helicopters during the Vietnam War.
Following his honorable discharge from the military he worked for an oil company in Farmington, NM. When a good friend came to Texas, Peter followed. He farmed and worked for Jelly Skidmore Trucking for a time. Peter owned and operated Dirt Busters before starting Northeast Texas Transport, a company that assisted funeral homes with transportation.
He then returned to Ohio to care for his mother. He went to work for Arnold Transportation and later the Hill and Dale Trucking Company where he worked until recently when he returned to Texas and went to work for Bob Evans as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Shawn English.
Survivors include four children; Dawn Ann English, Peter Anthony "Tony" McGarvey, III, Kevin McGarvey and Hayley Nannette McGarvey, many grandchildren, several aunts, uncles & cousins, his girlfriend & companion, Donna Horn, his "brother" & best friend, Frank Ross & wife Gina, and dear friends, Dalton Dagenhart and Nan Sherwood.
Casket bearers will be: Carl Davis, Franklin "Dusty" Ross, II, Ricky Crump, Vince Porter, Glen Shadid, and Dalton Dagenhart.
