Peter Naumec, 96, of Columbia, CT, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2019, surrounded by his family. Pete was born on February 14,1923 in Columbia and lived there his entire life.
He served in the Army during WWII in the 791st artillery anti-aircraft unit attached to the 9th Air Force. After serving 3 years in France, Pete returned home in 1946 to work for 29 years with Seminole Construction. He was then hired as the town of Columbia's Director of Public Works.
He retired from his position in Columbia in January 2005 at the age of 82 and enjoyed spending his free time with family and friends. Pete will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hardworking, well respected man, who could always be counted on to help his family and friends. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Hartford Healthcare Hospice and Visiting Angels for all their help. Pete is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Gertrude Naumec, his son, James Naumec and wife, Joan, five daughters; Patricia Krzesicki and husband, Anthony, Judy Naumec, Margaret Naumec Barrea, Nancy Shaw-Svach and husband, Shane Svach, Joyce Naumec Wiggins and husband, Glenn, and 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
After a private burial on Friday, July 26, 2019, please join us for a Celebration of Life from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m. at The Beckish Senior Center, 188 Route 66, Columbia.
