Phyllis Smith Peters, 71, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017. She was the wife of the late Warren Owen Peters, Sr.
Born April 7, 1946 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Presley Smith and Gladys Shaner Smith. Phyllis was the last Welcome Wagon Lady of Lynchburg. Thanks to her work, new arrivals to the city were greeted with a friendly face and gifts from various businesses in the area. She later opened her own travel agency, Four Seasons Travel, where many lucky travelers enjoyed her unique ability to find interesting and offbeat places to visit. Her annual trip to New York just before Christmas was one of the most popular of her tours.
Phyllis is survived by two children: Warren Peters, Jr. (Bobbi), Anne Ellett (Richard), three grandchildren: Terry Greene, Marshall Ellett, Morgan Ellett, and other family and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 30, 2017 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. John Vest officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Stroke Association.
The family would like to thank Centra Health and Guggenheimer Hospice for their wonderful care.
