Polly Moore Matheson Long Creek – Laura Pauline "Polly" Moore Matheson, 89, of 112 Charlotte Lane, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Lila Doyle Nursing Care. Born in Long Creek, she was a retired schoolteacher and owner of Polly's Apples. Known as the Queen of Apples, Polly had the opportunity to greet thousands of people from all walks of life. Mrs. Matheson was a faithful member of Long Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include husband Furman Simpson Matheson, daughter, by choice, Janice Matheson of Long Creek, brother Vernon Moore of Spartanburg, sisters Charlotte Phillips of Long Creek and Mae Wise of Melbourne, FL, grandson Kevin Matheson and wife Stephanie, two great- grandchildren Emily Matheson and John Furman Matheson of Westminster. In addition to son David Furman Matheson, daughter Shirley Ann Matheson, parents, John Enoch and Evie Wilbanks Moore brothers G. Ansel, Jewell, ED, Patrick and Wade Moore precede her in death. The family will receive friends 2-4 pm, Saturday June 20, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 5 pm, Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Long Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Long Creek Memorial Gardens. Flowers accepted or memorials to Hospice of the Upstate or Tribble Center, 116 S. Cove Rd., Seneca, SC 29672. The family is at the home of Janice Matheson, 430 Damascus Church Rd., Long Creek, SC 29658.
