Robert "R. B." Golden Jr, 84, Colorado City, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 5, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
He was born on March 7, 1933 to Robert and Euna Mae Ayers Golden in Mitchell County.
R.B. was a hard-working, honest man who taught his children what it meant to love God and Family above all else. He was a man that was set in his ways, but was always fair, willing to listen when someone needed to talk and give words of encouragement when they were needed the most. His love of God taught him to be humble, quiet and enduring.. Church was a big part of R.B.'s life, serving as the Chairman of Deacon's at Calvary Baptist and as a youth director for a period of time, and as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church.
R.B. knew the meaning of hard work he spent most of his time cotton farming and raising cattle, then spent several years building golf course greens. In his spare time R.B. could be seen enjoying time with family, doing little skits (including dress up), such as The Long Tall Texan, amongst others in order to put a smile on the faces around him, especially those of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved dearly. He also spent countless hours playing games with his family especially Dominoes, Skipbo, Uno, Yahtzee, Wahoo, and Marbles.
R.B. is survived by his children; Ken Golden and wife Donna of Franklin, Russell Golden and wife Lynne of Abilene, Cathey Johnson and husband Wade of Houma LA, and Cindy Golden of Raceland LA, as well as by his sister Mary Elizabeth Golden and by 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife June Golden.
A funeral service for R.B. will be held at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City on Monday, May 8th at 2pm with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating, the family will hold a visitation from 10 am to 12 pm at the church just prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
